크라이스트처치 테러 희생자를 위해서 함께 기도합시다
문화적 혐오에 대한 KWMA의 입장, 2019년 3월 28일 초본.4월 8일 개정
지난 4월 8일 한국 KWMA에서 뉴질랜드 한인 성도들과도 이러한 입장과 위로를 나누기 위해 ‘크리스천라이프’에 이 선언문을 보내왔다. <편집자 주>
한국 기독교 선교 사역을 대표하는 선교단체 총연합체인‘한국 세계선교 협의회(Korean World Mission Association: KWMA)’에서 <크라이스트처치 테러 희생자들을 위해서 함께 기도합시다>라는 제목의 선언문을 발표하였다. KWMA는 1990년에 결성되었고, 한국의 14개 교단과 130개 선교단체로 이루어진 연합체이다.
사랑과 희생으로 화해의 복음 증거가 될 것을 확인
“테러는 전 인류의 화합과 연대를 흔드는 어리석고 반인륜적 범죄”라고 규정한 이 선언문에서 KWMA는 “한국 세계선교 협의회 산하 교단과 선교단체들은 죽음으로 민족 간에 막힌 담을 허무신 예수그리스도를 본받아 인종이나 문화가 다른 이들을 존중함과 아울러 사랑과 희생으로 화해의 복음이 증거가 될 것을 확인한다.”고 밝히고 있다.
또한 “이 시간에도 전 세계에서 다양한 차별로 고통 받는 인종적, 민족적, 종교적 소수자들 가운데 하나님께서 회복과 위로를 베푸시길 기도한다.”며 테러 희생자들과 그 가족들에게 위로를 전하고 있다. 이 선언문은 뉴질랜드의 선교 단체 연합기관인 ‘Missions Interlink’에도 전달되었다.

지난 3월 15일 50명의 생명을 앗아가고 많은 이들이 부상을 당한 뉴질랜드 크라이스트처치(Christchurch) 두 이슬람 사원에 발생한 테러는 피해자 가족들은 물론 전 세계를 경악하게 하였습니다.
이 사건은 전 세계적인 다문화 현상과 함께 증가하고 있는 인종적 문화적 소수자들에 대한 혐오와 폭력이라는 글로벌 현상의 일부입니다.
우리는 이러한 테러는 전 인류의 화합과 연대를 흔드는 어리석고 반인륜적 범죄라고 생각합니다. 이에 한국세계선교협의회 Korean World Mission Association(KWMA)는 아래와 같이 입장을 밝히는 바입니다.
1.우리는 이번 테러 사건으로 인해 존귀한 목숨을 희생당한 이들의 죽음에 깊은 애도를 표합니다. 또한 심각한 부상을 당해 생명의 사투를 벌이고 있는 부상자들께도 깊은 위로를 전하며 하루 속히 건강하게 회복되기를 기도합니다.
또한 가족을 잃고 큰 슬픔 가운데 있는 희생자 가족들에게 하나님의 위로가 임하길 기도합니다. 우리가 희생자와 그 가족들의 깊은 슬픔을 감히 다 헤아릴 수 없지만 기도 가운데 그 고통을 함께 나누길 소망합니다.
2.우리는 세계 도처에서 인종이나 문화가 다르다는 이유로 상대편을 혐오하는 현상이 배척, 억압, 테러 등의 불의로 이어지는 현상을 규탄하고 배격합니다.
세계 모든 인류는 하나님께서 당신의 형상을 따라 창조하신 존귀한 존재로서 동등하게 하나님 사랑의 대상이며 복의 수혜자입니다. 따라서 인종, 민족, 종교, 정치적 차이 등으로 인해 차별받거나 폭력의 대상이 될 수 없습니다.
3.우리는 이번 사건이 한국 사회와 한국 교회가 스스로를 돌아보고 화평케 하는 공동체로 진일보하는 계기가 되길 소망합니다. 이미 인구의 약 5% 이상을 차지하는 외국인은 한국 사회의 증가하는 다문화성을 대변하고 있습니다.
그동안 정부를 비롯한 한국 사회가 국제 사회의 일원으로서 다른 문화의 이주민들에게 정치, 경제, 사회적으로 얼마나 수용적이었는지 살펴보아야 합니다.
또한 교회와 그리스도인들 역시 이미 이웃으로 살아가고 있는 이주민이나 난민 등을 얼마나 예수 그리스도의 사랑으로 포용하였는지 겸허하게 반성해야 할 것입니다.
우리는 이번 사건 후 일치된 마음으로 정의롭고 관대하며 품격있는 대응으로 귀감이 되어준 뉴질랜드 정부와 국민, 교회와 무슬림 지도자들에게 마음으로부터 찬사와 지지를 보냅니다.

We pray for the terror victims of Christchurch:
A declaration against cultural racism by the Korea World Mission Association
On March 15th 2019, fifty lives were taken and many suffered injuries by terrorism taken place at two Islamic mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. This came as a huge shock not just to the families of the victims but also to the worldwide community.
This incident is part of syndrome of cultural racism growing with global cultural diversity around the world, where hatred and violence towards racial minority groups are justified and even promoted.
We believe that this kind of act goes against the many efforts for diversity in unity and peace amongst the global community. The following is the position of the Korean World Mission Association (KWMA):
- We express our deepest condolences for the precious lives that were taken from this terror incident. We also give our sincere thoughts and prayers to those who are suffering injuries. We pray that God consoles the hearts of those people who lost their loved ones. We will never fathom how much pain and sorrow those people are going through at this time, but we want to grieve with you.
- We denounce all those around the world that act on hatred towards ethnic minority groups. We believe that all people are made in the image of God and so every life is made equal and valuable. Therefore no matter what race, religion or political opinion, everyone deserves respect and cannot be subject to violence or discrimination.
- We hope that, through this event, the Korean society and the Korean church look back on themselves and be the forerunners of the road to reconciliation. Over five percent of Korea’s population are now internationals, and the Korean society is increasingly becoming multicultural. We must examine how receptive Korean society is being towards foreigners in various aspects such as politically, economically and socially. As Christians we must look back on ourselves with humility and penitently and think about whether Korean churches are really treating refugees and immigrants with the kind of love that Jesus carried out. We send our praises and support to the leaders of the New Zealand government, churches, Muslim communities and all the people of New Zealand that became one as they acted with dignity and honour upon the horrific incident.
All the ministries and missionary organizations under the umbrella of KWMA will follow the steps of Jesus Christ who broke down all kinds of barriers among humankind. We are willing to sacrifice ourselves for all peoples regardless their race or religion or cultural differences through love, respect and embracement. We will be witnesses to the good news of reconciliation. Even at this very moment, our hearts go out to those people suffering terrible pain from discrimination of all kinds and we pray God’s mercy be upon them. May the peace of our Lord be with you.

The Korean World Mission Association is a network and the association of Protestant Christian mission organizations since 1990. It consists of mission boards of 14 denominations and 130 non-denominational mission organizations. This declaration was published in several papers in Korea.
